Biography
Carmelo Compare was born in Montesarchio (BN) Italy. After completing high school he enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Naples, which he abandoned after two years due to the strong passion that he increasingly binds to painting and sculpture. Towards the end of the seventies he moved to Milan not only for work, but also for the great and indispensable desire for aesthetic autonomy , where he met the master Bruno Cassinari, with whom he deepened his technical and expressive qualities, thus starting to an artistic journey that has lasted for over forty years. Carmelo Compare initially inspired by Surrealism, later approaches the currents of poor art and the Transavatgarde, to then arrive at the Meta-Psychic ( trough the soul, beyond the soul). Driven by a constant enthusiasm for research, he develops his own versatile and multifaceted creative vein using different materials, engaging in painting , as well as in sculptural installations of unprecedented design. In the stylistic approach of an experimental nature, he understands that through the work of art he can build a message and a dialogue , first with himself and then with the viewer. Making art for him is an act of intense reflective meditation, which leads him thoughts and accompanies him on an introspective journey in search of an existential evolution. In his production there is the substantial “ summa” of his artistic career , placed in the balance between recognizability and abstraction, between visible and conceptual, between real and imaginative. Thanks to an in- depth sounding of himself and his inner ego, he goes beyond matter and discovers the essence of pure spirit and the essence of the dimension of spirituality. He has participated in numerous personal and collective museum exhibitions, obtaining prizes and awards , gaining the consent of the public and critics. It has been reviewed by illustrious critics including Vittorio Sgarbi, Elena Gollini( curator of the Venice Biennale with V. Sgarbi) , F. Gallo, F. Carbone, Paolo Levi, Jose’ Van Roy Dali’ ...etc....His works ha e been published in prestigious catalogs and art magazines
