Biography

Born in Athens, I grew up in Patras receiving my first degree from the Department of Theatre Studies, of the University of Patras. I arrived in the UK in 2002 to begin in 2003 a foundation diploma in Art and Design at Camberwell College of Arts; I completed the course and soon after enrolled upon a Degree course in Fashion and Print at Central Saint Martins - London. I now design costumes for theatre and cinema productions while working on my practice as a textile artist.
My art is primarily focused in the field of printmaking and investigates issues of welfare, identity, alienation and transformation. I always start my artist journey with the use of acrylic black paint on a white surface and my recent work is becoming more installation-related. My art work is based on incidental found marks, old surfaces, textures and doodles. I am inspired from the mundane and I am always looking to the unexpected to occur. In an effort to create patterns and shapes suggestive of emotional states I manipulate these marks by photocopying, cutting, layering, collaging over and over until a new pattern/shape is born. I find a strange beauty in this process and in the outcome I think lies a secret and mysterious language somehow universal.
