Biography

On the 8th of November 1991, at 7:21pm, an American-made Cessna 177 tourist airplane crashed in Karlstrasse street, number 85, in Darmstadt, right on my childhood home. Various people died. My family, after 25 years, had just moved to Sicily.

In 2009, during my thirtieth birthday, my mother prepared a Sicilian dish to celebrate the event, a “Caponata”; it is a mixture of fried vegetables (especially eggplants), topped with tomato sauce, celery, onion, olives and capers, in a sweet and sour sauce. It’s a dish that is usually accompanied with bread, but for the occasion my mother accompanied it with a Currywurst, a typical German street food.
