Biography
Originally from the United States, Amber Bemak is currently based in Guadalajara, Mexico, where she is a visiting professor and director of the Film Certificate Program at Tecnológico de Monterrey. Her creative practice is based in documentary film, and also spans installation, sound, performance, and experimental video. Her films expand beyond the screen to play with perspective, provoke thought, and benefit communities through participatory engagement. Her work has been seen at venues including the Brooklyn Museum’s Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art, the Rubin Museum of Art, dOCUMENTA13, nGbK, and SculptureCenter, among others. She holds a BA from Antioch College and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and has directed both feature films and shorts in India, Nepal, Kenya, Mexico, Tibet, and the United States.
