Biography

My current art represents a style I call Urban Futurism, which is best described as my impressions of the massive shift I've observed in human nature, brought about by advances in technology within the digital age. I am deeply moved by the contemporary decay in human spirit, now evidenced by the widespread impact of "on-demand" data, media and entertainment against the destruction of the farm, manipulation of food sources, displacement of community and deterioration of the family. We live with this 24-hour, on-demand media assault, which has narrowed our own sense of spirit and imagination, and has dulled our sense of compassion, empathy, respect, duty, great love and appreciation for the essence of what makes us human. Each piece in the series evokes imagery of beings in opposition to environment.

As a kid, I was horrible at grammar and often fiddled in notebooks with streams of cursive equations or loopy language and alphabet symbols I'd made up. I use this language and its symbols as a base layer, painting a layered map of colors, gesso or pen and ink elements that flirt with the imagination of the viewer.
