Biography

Suzanne Duncan completed her MFA in 2015 from Michaelis School of Fine Art, UCT under the supervision of Fritha Langerman. Here dissertation is titled Dust Imagined: Mortality, Anxiety and Process. The body of work she produced during her Masters involved using the dust she collected from her vacuum cleaner over two years and exploring this material as a signifier of mortality. Through producing objects from the contents of her vacuum she questions objects' ability to outlive their owner/maker. The 'Death Anxiety' that this substance produces is evident in a number of durational and process based works.

Contents collected from the vacuum cleaner include dust, hair, fingernails and a number of small remnants that contribute to a life lived, including bits of food, fibre, items brought into the domestic area from outside etc.
