Biography
My artistic practice negotiates issues relevant to women, femininity, gender, expressions of physicality, sexuality and oppression within the contemporary sociopolitical context. At the same time, through my work I explore the formulative and destructive forces and processes that emerge and drive human behaviors. I am very much interested in how the system and the social framework push people and especially women into moulds or fabricate and establish expectations which restrict our personal freedoms. The process of uncovering our instincts and distinguishing between what we really want and what is imposed on us, is one of the crucial elements that I focus on. I aim to capture and visualize the tensions that emerge from the conflict between our impulses/desires and conformity in an attempt to deconstruct and renegotiate notions such as heteronormativity and normality.
