THE SKIN OF FISHERMAN'S COLONY

Mumbai city is considered to be the financial capital of India . Citizens here enjoy
all kinds of ultra modern amenities . On the out skirts , only a few kilometers from the city limits is a colony . It has commercial amenities & most modern commercial commodity supplies . However, the basic infrastructure & essential things , such as potable water & clean environment for living have not been provided .

While documenting this fisherman's colony , what struck me most is the paradox in their living conditions ; there are internet , Dish TV, Mobile service providers here , but for want of piped water supply , people cannot use washing machines . Washing clothes at the `community well ' continues the whole day long . Most of the people cook
their food outside their homes / houses and not in their kitchen . There are no hotels or even hatched eating places in the area . If anyone needs to eat out , he / she has to buy those unhygienic , uncovered eatables from the roadside peddlers & hawkers .

This different skin is disconcerting. One can see the apparent skin has its roots far deep.

Hence I felt the urge to make a digital document , proper & true , about this
deprived community , their environment , the total absence of basic amenities
in their life and their state of oblivion in the surrounding civilized world .

This skin reveals more than it covers...
Exposes more than it protects...
Exhausts more than it absorbs...
