Biography

Cris Bamio is a conceptual artist devoted during this period to photography. Since she was a child she had systematic artistic training in her home country.

She was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela; she is a daughter of Spanish parents (Galician migrants). She lives and works in Spain.

She has presented around thirty individual and collective exhibitions of paintings in Spain and Germany. For her first works, she had to find the harmony between the blue light and the endless shades of green of northwestern Spain, with the saturated brightness of the lights from the tropics. She went from painting and drawing, where she always explored the feminine body, to the photography where she continued and deepened into this identity quest. In recent years, the black and white photography has constantly helped her to express deeper and intimate feelings when working almost exclusively and directly with the exploration of her own body, in contrast with the obstinate reality that our society presents through the mass media about the concept of the real and diverse body of women.

She always keeps in mind that this self-knowledge helped her not only to accept and love her own body, but the distinct, unique, and manipulated body of women.
