Mauro Moriconi concentrates his interests on various themes, such as the urban landscape, nature, plastic stuff and the different faces and moods of the human being. In a largest sense, he focuses on contrasts, mainly related to good and evil, past and present, tradition and modernity.
The human figures, often transfigured through the artistic reminiscence and placed in contexts in which nature has been manipulated by the introduction of industries, houses, monuments, always give rise to the question of man’s function in the world, his creative strength but his destroying power as well. Contrasts are therefore provocation and stimulate a constant questioning on our future reality. How will our future world be? What will happen to animals and vegetation? And to our food? What of our capacity of reproduction? This is what Moriconi’s photos suggest. An artistic engagement that reveals a sensitive attention for issues like environment and pollution.
Thus, he uses digital photography, enriched by precious engravings that exalt lights and shades of each visual element, to re/create possible future scenaries and to give an hypothetic answer tracing a personal, surrealistic way of re-interpreting the world, imagining it through a visionary glance that filters common fears, anxieties and uncertainties. Despite the critical message behind his works and the ambiguity in which certain elements are matched, his pictures convey a sense of extraordinary equilibrium and quiet beauty. The interaction between man and nature represented by Moriconi is able to awaken new meanings and new situations and raise doubts about a possible solution. The ghost of big and imminent changes flutters about his photos and instigates the observer’s imagination challenging it to become involved in this effort of prophecy and voyance.
