Biography
In the last year I worked mainly on three projects:
1. Jugglers
2. Anima Mundi
3. Feminine
In “Jugglers” I followed a search path about “simplification”, on removing things rather than add them. The objective is to use essential forms and lines to represent universal themes and sentiments, like love, joy, journey, duality (male-female, light-darkness), the human being and its relation with the universe. The formal research concerns the fluidity and essentiality of the lines, the large fields of color, the brightness that comes from the darkness.
The project “Anima Mundi” (lit. The Soul of the World) and “Feminine” are two different paths in the context of the series “Still-life Alive”.
The works of “Anima Mundi” show several aspects of the human comedy/tragedy (like in Aesop, Phaedrus, La Fontaine). In this series am trying to find a personal, modern, partly playful language, moving from the classical still-life. The different characters are fruits, vegetables, objects that take life on the canvas, sometimes a stage of a simple play, with everyday actions, sometimes with more dramatic actions. The characters partecipate to the comedy, or the drama, with several degrees of consciousness, either with the liveliness and the recklessness of teenagers or the severity and gravity of thoughtful adults. The formal research focuses on the color and sharpness of the forms, the plasticity of the objects on vibrating and wavy backgrounds, the simplification.
The project “Feminine” is a search about the mystery of the womanhood, using the same artistic language used in the other projects. The subjects are women, sometime fruit-women, sometimes female faces, in different ages, and with a different awareness of her selves and their beauty, of their blossoming to life. Many symbols, like animals or objects, are present, and they mirror a mood, or a significant passage experienced by the character. In many works, the female character seems to belong to two different worlds: the character is the representation, in our world, of something present in “another” world, and I think that the sight of the character, which is almost always the focus of these works, is the main key to access the feminine mystery.
