A Korean female sound artist aRing (a.k.a. Irene Eunyoung Lee) introduces her 2nd performing artwork at Mapo Art Center on November 3rd and 4th, of 2010. The 70 minutes production combines the digital music technology with live classic performers, lights, physical theatre, and moving images.
In the upcoming performance , a nationally and internationally acclaimed Korean female traditional singer and actress Junghae Oh (Seopyeonje (1993) and A Thousand Cranes / Beyond the Years (2007)) collaborates with aRing to achieve a high artistry in making convergence music of the Korean traditional singing “Sori” and the computer-generated interactive sounds. Also, several exceedingly talented classical musicians and artists from other genres – such as physical theatre, lighting, and costume design, etc. - are engaged to bring up highest level of artistic expressions of this inventive work. In order to collectively collaborate for this self portrait sound art performance, each artist communicated with the creative director through sharing her texts (novel), music, and images to understand the essence of the work, and each of them plays their individual roles like parts or cells of the artist on the stage. True or not, the work is a groundbreaking effort to show a new creative art form and its artistic potentials to the Korean theater, in where an experimental performance is not well appreciated by its audiences.
