The photo series „6 Meter vor Paris. 159 objektive Fotografien von Eustache Kossakowski“ will be shown at Freies Museum Berlin from September 22nd to October 24th. In this series, the Polish artist shares an extraordinary view of the city of Paris in the seventies.
In 1971 Kossakowski came up with the idea of making a report about the city of Paris based on a previously set method. He photographed 159 road signs with the inscription PARIS, located on the outskirts of the city, from a distance of six meters. The signs are always placed in the center of the images, while the photograph of the surrounding reality is a work of coincidence. Paradoxically, the photo series proved to be a convincing, although perplexing report about Paris and was successful as such. The photos from this series represent a valuable historical testimony of the urban reality in the 70's.
An exhibition catalog, which is released by the publishing company NOUS, will be presented at the opening. The exhibition was realized in collaboration with the French art society EKO, the Polish Foundation Arton and the Freies Museum Berlin.
