Many times I have found that I am not able to submit to an exhibition, visit galleries or attend conferences because, although I may be able to get to the venue, I cannot afford the accomodation.
I would like to propose a support network specifically for artists.
For example, I have a spare bed in my office which I can offer as free accomodation to other artists visiting my area. I would love to host someone outside of my immediate circle who undersands what I am talking about and doesn't think that I should "get a proper job"!
You may have accomodation to offer, or may just be willing to spend some time with a visitor exploring the art/galleries in your area.
You could decide that you will host a visiting artist in exchange for their contribution to a project, or have them spend a couple of hours helping you in the studio etc.
I thnk this is a necessary project because all over europe art is being marginalised. Funding is being reduced or withdrawn, education is becoming more vocational, and generally life is being made financially difficult. This would enable us to cross borders, ignore politics, and establish a fluid and strong network of support for ourselves. Society needs it artists now more than ever.
If you would be interested in joining the network, let me know. There may be possibilities I can't imagine.
