1) white fabric covers the wall and ceiling
2) a painting (mixed media on paper, 150x460cm, inspired from the play ‘Por La Vida’, E. Dragonetti and R. Tagliabue)
3) 3 open white umbrellas, suspended upside down with a laser at each tip. The beams are aimed at mirrors on the floor that reflect the beam back up to sensors on each umbrella. These trigger audio tracks recording the personal details and disappearance of the desaparecidos.
4) other lasers hidden in the fabric above each of the umbrellas. Their beams hit reflective material inside each umbrella, creating a dance of red light around the room.
5) a background soundtrack composed from archival material (the Mothers’ voices, Videla’s radio broadcast, the Argentinean world cup, tango) and recorded sounds (ocean, aircraft etc)
6) EXTERNALLY, a video bears witness to the personal and social implications of what happened: Carolina Oro, daughter of a survivor and niece of a desaparecido
We have entered Premio Yilania organised by the Foundation Gentes de Yilania to take the installation to Buenos Aires as well as to make a research trip to Argentina to gather further information and material.
