Biography

Laura Serani is currently Présidente du Jury at Prix Résidence pour la Photographie de la Fondation des Treilles, France. Laura is a curator and critic who regularly collaborates with institutions and festivals in Europe and elsewhere (MEP in Paris, Mamm and Biennials of Moscow et al.) Laura was Déléguée artistique for the 2014 and 2008 editions of the Mois de la Photo in Paris; Art director of two editions of Mali's Rencontres de Bamako, the African biennial of photography in 2009 and 2011; curator for the Festival of Fotografia Europea in Reggio Emilia, Italy; From 1985 to 2006 Laura was in charge of the Collection and of the Fnac Galleries (in Europe, Brazil and Taiwan). Laura is author of several books and texts, including: La fotografia tra storia e poesia (Mazzotta), of many introductory essays (Ara Güler, Malick Sidibé, Luigi Ghirri, Sarah Moon, Bernard Plossu, Sophie Zenon, Gabriela Morawetz, Claude Nori, Nicola Lo Calzo, Purple Rabbit, Maimouna Guerresi, François Halard, et al.) and of texts for catalogs and collective publications. Laura has curated shows by noted and emerging photographers such as Man Ray, Brassai, Cartier-Bresson, Willy Ronis, William Klein, Duane Michals, Martin Parr, Allen Ginsberg, Pedro Almodovar, Antoine D’Agata, Klavdji Sluban, Nick Waplington), and contribuited to the better understanding of Italian photography in France and in Spain with exhibitions of the work by Gianni Berengo Gardin, Mimmo Jodice, Ugo Mulas, Francesco Radino, Ferdinando Scianna, Francesco Jodice, Paolo Pellegrin, Paolo Woods. Laura has worked with a number of cultural institutions such as La Maison Européenne de la Photographie and l’Institut Italien de Culture a Parigi, the MAMM - the Multi Media Museum of Moscow, the National Gallery of Bosnia in Sarajevo, the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, the Fondazione Stelline in Milan, the Maramotti Collection in Reggio Emilia. Among other international festivals Laura has worked with, are Rencontres d’Arles, Biennial of Photography in Moscow, Encontros da Imagem a Braga, Photomed in France, SIFest in Italy. She has been juror in several prizes Word Press Photo, New York Photo Awards, Vipa in Vienna, Prix Niépce, in 2017 Laura is chief-juror of 'In Conflict', Visible White Photo Prize. Laura Serani lives in Paris.
