Biography

Mark Rumsey is an artist and community activist based in Grand Rapids, MI, United States.
Soon after completing an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts and Philosophy, at Grand Valley State University, he began engaging in community based work. His work has included the successful
incorporation of the arts and the artist community into community and economic re-development work. Mark continues to be engaged in community and arts advocacy work including efforts to maintain and
improve our urban forest and growing a international contemporary art festival.

Mark recently completed his MFA in Printmaking at Kendall College of Art and Design, where he is currently an adjunct instructor. He has recently exhibited his work in Chicago, Muskegon, Grand Rapids, New York, St. Louis, Provo, Bay City, and Seattle.

In July of 2009 Mark will be an Artist in Residence at Frans Masereel Centrum, the Flemish Center for Graphic Arts, in Belgium. He has
pursued travel through a cultural immersion mode including spending extended time in India, Nepal, and China and shorter durations in Germany, Egypt, and Turkey.
