04 Threshold of Nothingness

"04 Threshold of Nothingness" is part of an ongoing series of moving image meditations on time, existence and memory. Intended as a continuous loop, it was inspired by a memory of a dream. I don’t recall the details - only the sensation of being chased through a maze-like path that seemed to perpetually repeat itself. I was running and running yet going nowhere. I was running from an invisible perpetrator, only to discover that person to be my own shadow - bringing me back to myself, where I began. An endless circle of time and the patterns we are unable to escape. The journey is symbolic of the journeys we partake in throughout our daily existence, on both a spiritual and mundane level. It manifests metaphorically through the image, and consciously through sensations and sound. The sound piece/narrative contextualizes the imagery, acting as the yin to its yang, and eluding to parallel states of being and perceiving. Layers of consciousness explored through image, sound, space and time - echo the layers through which we filter our individual realities. This unique yet collective process mirrors my interest in how reality is constructed through personal illusions of perception; how the present is like water, slipping through our fingers, how quantum studies brings us closer now than ever before, to the acknowledgement of parallel realities, and the belief that time's linearity is nothing more than a human construct. In Buddhist philosophy the journey of life is seen as an endless circle of time, cause and effect, decay and renewal. My work regards the journey as a metaphor for the human condition, reflecting its dualities, and treading between physical and conscious reality.
