Schatten der Vergangenheit - Le ombre del passato

Immaginate come i vecchi romani hanno vissuto, come hanno influito sul corso del mondo: guerre per più di quattordici secoli, incendi, demolizioni e nuovi inizi. Questo dipinto unisce tutte queste sfaccettature della storia. Essa vive a Roma e sotto Roma, agisce dall'antichità fino ai giorni nostri. Anche la crudeltà, lo spargimento di sangue e gli incendi fanno parte di questa città. Come un angelo una donna stende le sue mani protettrici sui resti dell'inferno e sembra d'eliminare qualche pezzo di legno fumante.
La consapevolezza del passato, il riconoscimento anche dei lati dolorosi, tutto questo appartiene a noi e ad una città e ci dona dignità per la vita di oggi.

Shadows of the past
Imagine how old Romans lived and how they influenced the progress of the world: wars for more than fourteen centuries, fires, demolitions and new beginnings. This painting unites all these facets of history. History lives in Rome and under Rome. It flows from ancient times to our times. Cruelty, bloodshed and fire are also part of this city. Like an angel, a woman spreads her protective hands over the remains of an inferno and she seems to remove a few pieces of the smouldering wood.
Consciousness of the past and recognition of its painful aspects, too. All of this belongs to us and to a city, and it bequeaths us dignity in our lives in the present.
