"Sonia25bi" (Silesian e-portrait: towards a virtual anthropology)

Painting from a collection of “e-portraits” from web-sourced images of Polish Silesians, approaching an ethnographic survey reminiscent of the 19th and early 20th Century photographs of racial stereotypes that foreshadowed European nationalist and racist/eugenic politics. The significant difference in these contemporary images is that Silesians themselves broadcast images they select and/or create, collectively portraying a society in historical flux as Silesia moves its focus from Communism to Capitalism, from East to West.
