The Crossing Guard Chamber features the etching, “Night Landing” by Julian Otto Trevelyan. The selection of the artwork was based upon my research on pedestrian visibility. I recognized the potential to unite the colors of the print with the signature colors of pedestrian signage. While the print spotlights nighttime navigation, my installation creates the off duty chamber of a crossing guard. This shelter provides elements of comfort and protection while framing the bed upon the crosswalk. The guard is captive to the fragility of pedestrian paths while resting under a patterned quilt layered with text from the State of Wisconsin crosswalk ordinance.
