Every evening I walk home from my studio. One day I looked down a side road to see a woman who I thought was a prostitute doing something next a car. Before I could work out what was happening I passed the turning and the scene had gone. As I continued to walk home an image stuck in my head and was still there the next day. I did some drawings and found a couple of old photographs that evoked something of the sensation I had got the previous night. As I started to work on the painting all sorts of images came back into my mind. Something of the way the rain is highlighted by the street lamps as it falls, making it look like the street lamps were spewing out diamonds into the night.
