THE LATEST CONFLICT; WHICH FILTER TO USE?

Define: When I say we or us I am mostly referring to American society but these attributes can be applied to majority of industrial and Post-industrial societies.
This piece deals specifically with our society and how detached we have become from reality. This world is saturated with images and videos that give the viewer a false essence of knowing an event that has taken place. The ease of access to this data allows us to gain immediate access to these events while knowing or unknowingly we understand that we are distant from the events in time and place. As the viewer, we are voyeurs to the situation. We can view the struggle and death of others but we can’t fully experience or understand the full context of emotions the individuals being recorded is experiencing. We can’t understand the death of others because we are usually distant from them in time and space. We can’t understand the fear present in their face or the whole host of emotions coursing through their mind. You are emotionally detached from their situation and life. You don’t understand how their actions in life got them to this current place in time and space. Yet we have politicians that can determine whether or not their actions are worth their death. Are they more of an authority figure than their deceased comrades? We can’t resurrect the dead to inquire their opinion on the worth of an event. The arrogance of the politician shows when they claim to know the worth of a life that isn’t their own. It’s easy to recognizing something wrong in the world; the hard part is changing what you deem wrong. Additionally, the experience that we gain from these videos gives us a false sense of knowing because it blurs the line of reality especially when the data is comprised 1’s and 0’s that can be easily manipulated. If we believe that video loses its integrity of reality does it distort everyone’s perception of reality? Can we show war in a video?
The filters in my video blur the lines between fact and fiction aestheticizing a horrible situation and finding beauty in war. They also function as refuting the indexical quality of the video. The finger reminds us we are looking at a transmission breaks the plane of reality.
These videos are a meaningless archive among the countless amounts of war videos on the internet that distort reality and until these videos create actions from the viewer to prevent future events they will remain meaningless. Then hand constantly breaks the plane of reality informing the viewer of the videos artificiality.
