Adulterated Bodies are studies related to the different bodies of water in Lima, including La Chira beach, main drain for 40 years for the city of Lima, the Rimac River, main source of potable water for the city of Lima, and Los Pantanos de Villa, four different swamps located at the South of Lima. These various bodies of water are important for the overall health of the Peruvian ecosystem, yet each are heavily contaminated by nearby industries, and so far local and national governments have done little to protect the natural environment.

In these studies, I physically expose photographic paper to water I gathered from their locations. Then I expose the contaminated paper using a traditional color darkroom process with the photographic negatives I took on site, at the locations themselves, in an attempt to connect the dire physicality of the places with the otherwise bucolic imagery of their landscapes.

In this presentation I include photographs of printed laboratory results addressing the different water samples I had tested by SGS LAboratory. My goal was to link, in a more specific way, the main contaminating agent in each water source.
