PEACE, NOT ONLY FOR DOVES!
Painting for Martine is less a way of recording things than of expressing her philosophy of life. Whether a Moon is portrayed in the background, or rather a Sun, is inconsequential: the divine radiance of the Cosmos dominates this rendering of a graceful seagull rejoicing in its freedom, expressed by means of its flight into the clear blue sky. The dominant blue colour of the work, and the supplemental light that is embedded in the colour itself, are instrumental in conveying its peaceful, uplifting, tranquil, clear and serene aura.
The title: "This is not a Dove", is also a wink at fellow Belgian artist MAGRITTE. With this title the artist further expresses her lay philosophy and her adoration for the Universe in a vibrant yet serene tribute, distancing herself from the frustration and aggression associated with the dissonances of her time ...
