Symphony in D (Major)

This work was made partly in response to the location of the exhibition space, which is underneath the War Memorial in Norwich city centre. The exhibition is/was part of the Norwich Twenty Group's 70th anniversary shows, and 2014 is also the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One. There is specially composed music to accompany this work consisting of violin and classical guitar. In addition to this is a story concerning a D.W. Boyd-Jones who may or may not have fought in WW1, and an unknown person who recorded the last song played by Boyd-Jones. The text is:

D. W. Boyd-Jones was famed for playing symphonies on his guitar whilst charging into battle. Boyd-Jones’ last performance was recorded on a fragment of a letter found near the site of his death:

‘…in a brief moment everything suddenly stopped. I became aware of the silence. Slowly, I heard a song being played on a guitar. I’d never heard the song before, but immediately thought of My Love. Gradually the music faded from my ears…’
