IRISES "LINGUA FRANCA" AND OTHER CURVY CREATIONS
This piece is from my series of "Alphabets" where I try to become a "native" for the language while I am working on it, and try to depict with specific character, cultural elements, historical achievements etc. This piece is dedicated to France, with its artists, musicians and culinary gurus known worldwide. I have included on the picture only few of most known French inventions like Cognac, Champagne, Bordeaux, (with their specific glasses), French coffee press, French roast coffee, croissant, French twist, Brie, just to name a few. Every artist, designer, architect is familiar with "French Curves" for others, I will explain that it is a set of plastic shapes with very specific, elegant curved edges used in drawings.
You will ask probably, but what this piece has to do with "Alphabets"???
If you will look on Irises by slightly leaning your head to the right you can notice that each flower represents one letter of French Alphabet (which is same as Latin).
Grapes in the plate are arranged in the shape of map of France. Also there is "escargot" and frog are hidden in the leafs.
French language was used for centuries as a language of elite in Russia, Italy, United States etc.
