10,000steps

10,000steps

My practice is informed by dissociation, which I experience as a symptom of long term anxiety. This leads me to believe that my face is constantly morphing. Sometimes I am unable to recognise myself in mirrors or photographs.

These pieces are part of a body of work in which I explored ways of manipulating the image of my face digitally. In "10,000 steps", my face has become like a virtual avatar - huge cartoonish eyes, the surface of the skin formed of shapes and shades. The fragmentation of the self through virtual identity mirrors my own sensations experienced as a result of dissociation, which is something I explore through the digital manipulation of my own image.
