selfportrait, Urbino

Fotografia Analogica, Figura umana, Analogica, 270x120x2cm
selfportrait. Urbino, italy. containing some aspects of artist statement:
------------------------------------------------
the work of nicolas romanacci explores relations between the individual and universal structures, created through nature or men. challenge at hand is to create unique artworks, beyond unnecessary conceptual, trendy or other defaults. aim is to investigate a highly heterogeneous audio-visual space. these works are not ment to provide answers, rather trying to open up space for considerations on various realms.
-------------------------------------------------
as nicolas romanacci is also publishing as a researcher with a radical philosophical approach, having studied image science and media art histories, the artist's work might be also understood as a philosophical investigation with artistic instruments. to get a bit more concrete: one basic theme is the comparison of platonistic (claiming the existance of ideas) and nominalistic (focusing the individual) approaches to reality. as the artist (as a philosopher) prefers a nominalistic view (investigating views from ockham to goodman), the heterogenity of his work gets comprehensible in a radical sense.

normally I don't like to illustrate poems with images. in this case, it is an exception. still no illustration or the only reference, but it is on my mind:
-----------------------------------
Fine della preistoria//
Dietro i tetti scende il sole./
Apollo scioglie i suoi cavalli./
Nelle chiese pende Gesu./
I tempi sono maturati e vizzi./
Gli autori hanno scritto »fine«. Ma nulla finisce./
Ti ostini. Che cosa aspetti.

hi nicoletta, thank you for your comment. I know what you mean. Somehow, I also do prefer my more »abstract« works. But I like to understand this »realistic« piece to express some main aspects of my approach to my work. And as a selfportrait it is somehow an »outstanding« work. If you like watch »scan«, it counts also as a selfportrait, but it is in a much more »abstract« style. In general, I always try to express complex »themes« through precise and minimal composition. cari pensieri. nicolas

I like this work: very good picture!
But, honestly, I prefer more unreal subjects, like your "Plant" or "Der Dritte"...
