Ghost Dancers

Ghost Dancers

Scultura, Sacro / Mitologico, 3.81x3.81x3cm
Materials Used: muskrat jawbone bone, beach stone
This piece emerged from a skeletal study of small animal bones. I was fusing together tiny bones from rabbits, possum, and muskrat. In the process, I noticed that jawbones are naturally curved so when held upright they appear to dance with raised arms. Eventually I drilled eyes into three muskrat jawbones and stood them vertically on a stone. This created the effect of dancing ghosts. It is deeply symbolic as I lost three close relatives, two nephews and a grandniece, so I have since dedicated the piece to Matt, Mike, and Amber.
