Chisinau Girls Graduation Gown
(The Independent, July 2008)
Forums worldwide discuss the 30,000 women and girls alleged to be missing from Moldova as a result of sex trafficking. Chisinau is the capital of Moldova, a country where women are often seen as a commodity and an object to be owned. Far from being a choice, trafficking is usually something that is forced upon girls, with the pressure of real threats against their family should they try to escape.
The Chisinau Girls Graduation Gown represents the often very young age a Moldovan female leaves her education, and the future that await many. The gown has been created from Vagina cotton fabric, with free-machine embroidery, and is presented on a plastic torso in perspex frame.
