Equality

Equality is my first work dedicated to the people of Göttingen, in particular, the young women who are still, in the 21st century, pressurized into choosing between career satisfaction and motherhood. Göttingen is a town in the heart of Germany famous for its University and for all the notable people that lived and worked here at some point in their lives, like Lou Andreas-Salome and Max Planck. In its market square is the iconic statue of Gänseliesel, where PhD students parade to celebrate their graduation adorning her with flowers and a kiss on the cheek. This is where I chose to place Equality, a band I cross-stitched with the german road sign for „roadwork“ both in pink and in blue and the mathematical notation equal between them.
