When the painting is finished, the painting is not the end. Throughout the creation of the painting it is photographed, using these photographs he digitally changes the painting. Or as he calls it, 'Digitally Remixes' it. The paintings’ original concept is re-examined, either an argument with the original painting is created or an agreement. The painting and the digital work form part of a conversation. The combined work reflect his personal feelings on whether to abandon the past (painting) and embrace the future (digital). Music is an important influence on Dex Hannon’s work, the music he listened to growing up always incorporated a remix version. The concept of a remix left a mark on him. In some cases it became more important than the original source material. The remixing process re-energised it, gave it a new life. Took the original work in another direction completely, but the remix could never forget its past. Without that original source material the remix could not exist.
