Revenge for a poem denied : "Save As"
Alessandra Baldoni,
by Magdalene Rinaldi.
-Who can measure the fervor and violence
the heart of a poet
when it is caught and trapped
in a woman's body ?-
Virginia Woolf , "A Room of One's Own" 1929.
Fighting against the specter eternal oblivion , preserving the memory and the memory of small daily gestures , objects and affections of our past and have always been an inherent tendency of human beings, a primal instinct . And art, in its diverse forms and manifestations riding centuries and epochs mode was certainly not watching. Many artists , contemporary and not that they have chosen at the center of the search their memory , the time , the memory . This is the framework within which to read those art forms accustomed to observe the reality of everyday life with morbid curiosity that , in recent years, emerged with overwhelming ambition in the contemporary scene . As is the case for example of Sophie Calle ( Paris, 1953) or Christian Boltanski ( Paris, 1944) just to mention some of the greatest exponents. Artists such as with photography , video or installation from years investigating the newspaper , memory and the passage of time almost maniacally .
Alessandra Baldoni (Perugia , 1976) falls within the framework I have outlined the kind of contemporary art that reflects on daily life . Already proposed by Studio Vanna Casati in 2005 and in 2009 with " The Third Person " , will return for the Ninth Day of Contemporary Art , presenting an unpublished work .
His aesthetic has always reflected the specificity of the photographic act in conjunction with other arts , offering impressive inroads in the fable , literature or poetry . The artist depicts real set, constructing a metaphysical world and enchanted and trying to tell the places of the soul , those existential geographies in which everyone can recognize . The central themes of his work are always memory, dream, fairy tale and love. Active for years on the national and international Alessandra Baldoni is today one of the artists selected for the Cairo Award 2013.
His latest work , "Save As" from the title stands as a tribute to the last book of Antonella Anedda , poet dear to the artist . But it is also at the same time a declaration of love towards something that needs to be preserved from oblivion and forgetfulness and stems from the artist to pay tribute to those writers who have played a key role in his aesthetic .
Click poetic and refined, which conceal a strong symbolic connotation conceptual under simulacra , those who Baldoni has created to describe lives , passions and destinies of Virginia Woolf , Amelia Rosselli , Ingeborg Bachmann, Antonia Pozzi and many others.
Writers, poets , authors , who have decided to continue to live choosing death .
As if to retreat and disappear forever , it was the only way to be free from restraints and gags . Why do the poets you know, sometimes bother and do not always like to political power , which in the world and over the centuries has tried to counteract the activity of social protest .
Today, Alessandra Baldoni , decides to mend those destinies torn and tie into a single tale of images those stories of love and suffering , taking a portion of each life , a track, a symbol.
The photos on display , such as visual metaphors allude to the fact simulacra , in an attempt to narrate the experience of each poet through those symbols that were part of their lives , but also their atrocious death.
The focus for Ingeborg Bachmann , the same fire that he saw burning in his elegant house in Via Giulia in Rome in 1973 , the water , the cause of his suicide by drowning Virginia Woolf ( Rodmell , 1941) but also elements dear to poets in life as ice, for example, to Antonia Pozzi .
Those are certainly images of Baldoni unchallenged conceptual value , strong imagery and sometimes shocking images that cry out for vengeance . Revenge for a poem denied, for a hundred thousand voices gagged .
