These works were both originally made in response to the location in which they were first exhibited.
Symphony in D (Major) tells the story of two soldiers killed in action. This work was first exhibited in the Undercroft space which is below the War Memorial in Norwich city centre.
No Shelter: Mother without Child is inspired by Henry Moore's drawings made during the London Blitz of World War Two and was exhibited in the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts. The stones that form the sculpture are found objects from Happisburgh beach where Moore used to holiday during the 1930s and found stones "with holes right through them", and it is these stones which arguably informed some of Moore's most famous works. The hand-cut canvas is a symbolic representation of Jasmine flowers depicting the aftermath of an aerial bomb attack on Damascus, (City of Jasmine) Syria. The stones form the body of a mother who has lost her child.
