“Mutant” is a series of self-portraits as gay comic book characters. In my performance I explore the homophobic and hetero-normative discourse of the genre. I embody the silly and effeminate, the sinister and perverted and the diseased and contagious. In doing so, I explore not just crude, stereotypical representations of homosexuality but also the norms and values that underpin them.
