Biography

“I play, create, fail and learn, and if this produces pieces that make me smile then I know I’m doing something right”

Born and brought up in the creative environment and fishing port of Newlyn, Cornwall. Artist Shelley Anderson first started toying with metal in his father’s workshop, which in time, led on to training in Metal Fabrication and Silversmithing at Falmouth College of Art. He creates subtle yet striking jewellery using natural materials and timeless techniques.
Shelly has more recently embarked on a series of marine life figures such as lobsters, crabs and fish. The combined use of ancient techniques and recycled materials help to create pieces that have an unearthed and excavated character.
Shelley has gained recognition and funding to further his work in restoration from the York conservation society. The Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust awarded him a scholarship to further his training in mixed metal work, Shelley practices traditional armourers and jewellers techniques, in addition to encompassing new and innovative techniques himself.
