Biography of the author.

Fabián España Rivera was born in Coyhaique in 1984. He became interested in photography at the age of 15, thanks to the support of his foster father. Between 2002 and 2006 he worked as a photographic correspondent al various Chilean newspapers. During this period he also undertook several photographic projects related to the Chilean Patagonia. In 2007 he moved to Santiago to study photography at the Instituto Alpes, graduating in 2009. Parallel to his professional work, he began developing projects focusing on families: through images the author studied the affects and the fissures of Chilean families in depth, shedding light on different social an cultural representations.

In 2009, España was selected to participate of the viewing organized by PhotoEspaña in Guatemala city with his The ballad of José and Valeria: hidden spaces project. He obtained the Rodrigo Rojas Denegri prize awarded to upcoming photographers by the Council for Culture and the Arts the following year. He was also distinguished in several categories at the Chilean National Photojournalism Salon 2010 and 2011, organized by the Chilean Union of Graphic Reporters and Camera Operators.

He has had solo exhibitions at various venues en Chile and as part of group exhibitions in Argentina, Mexico, Spain, Nicaragua and Japan. He also published Ema s Forest. Graphic history of lenga -fireland cherry - exploitation (2007), The ballad of José and Valeria: hidden spaces (2010) and Family Secrets (2011), with the support of Chilean state grand funds. His authorial projects are combined with his work at the Las Ultimas Noticias newspaper.
