Biography

Zane Onckule is Programme Director at kim? Contemporary Art Centre in Riga, Latvia, since 2010. She has organised, curated and co-curated exhibitions, parallel programming as well as edited publications and other corresponding materials in collaboration with wide range of artists, curators and theoreticians. She was a co-commissioner of Latvian Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale organized in partnership with Art in General (New York). Zane is jury member of Celeste Prize 2016. Recent curatorial activities include curating Le Fragole del Baltico (together with Simone Menegoi), group exhibition at CareOf, Milan (July, 015); Sink Down Montain, Raise Up Walley!, solo exhibition by Ulla von Brandenburg at kim? Contemporary Art Centre, Riga, (May, 2015); Little Vera, a duo exhibition by Sanya Kantarosvky and Ella Kruglyanskaya at kim? Contemporary Art Centre, Riga (June, 2014) and Jargot, solo exhibition by Ola Vasiljeva at Art in General, New York (January, 2014). She studied Art History at the Art Academy of Latvia and at the University of Latvia, Faculty of Social Sciences and has a Bachelor's degree from the BA School of Business and Finance in Business Management in Latvia. Interested in the modes of language, writing, production, and notion of retreat, all seen through the questioning the conditions of visual art practices.
